Pennsylvania became the second state on December 12, 1787.

It was given the nickname the Keystone State because it was the middle colony during colonial times.

Pennsylvania’s motto is: “Virtue, Liberty and Independence”.

State Tree is the Eastern Hemlock

State Bird is the Ruffed Grouse

In 1943 the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers merged to form the “Steagles” due to the loss of many players during WWII.
