New Jersey became the third state on December 18, 1787, and was the first state to sign the 

Bill of Rights.

It was given the nickname of the Garden State because of its many fruits and vegetables.

New Jersey’s state motto is: “Liberty and Prosperity.”

State Flower is the Violet.

New Jersey’s state bird is the Eastern Goldfinch designated in 1935.

Atlantic City has the longest Boardwalk in the world, The street names in the game of Monopoly are street names in Atlantic City.

New Jersey is the actual birthplace of college football.  The first game was played in 1869 between Rutgers and New Jersey (later named Princeton) in New Brunswick.
