Georgia became the 4th state in 1788. It was given the nickname of the Peach State because the Cherokee Indians grew peaches in the mid 1700’s and today the state produces about 2.6 million bushels a year.
Georgia’s state motto is: Wisdom, Justice and Moderation.
State flower is the Cherokee Rose
Georgia’s state bird is the Brown Thrasher
Half of the state of Georgia is covered in Pine trees and more commercial forestland than any other state. Georgia is known for its lumber, resin and turpentine which all come from trees.
Georgia also grows the most peanuts in the United States.
